Christmas Spectacular to hit Gibraltar this winter
Gibraltar will be staging a ‘Christmas Spectacular’ this December. This will feature a
series of exciting events throughout the Christmas period.
Following on from the success of last year’s ’Small-Business Saturday’ and
‘Christmas Extravaganza’, Gibraltar will see once again the return of the ‘Small
Business Saturday’ on 6th December. A ‘Late Night Shopping Wednesday’ has been
programmed for Wednesday 17th December. A ‘Winter Party In Town’ variety show &
concert featuring a famous international pop band supported by several other local
acts, will be held at Casemates on 20th December. In addition, fair attractions for
children will be sited at the John Mackintosh Square from 29th November until 6th of
January; these will be free on 6th December and 17th December. Winter log cabins
selling Christmas goods will be situated along the Chatham Counterguard Strip from
21st November until 24th December.
This varied programme has been jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism,
Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port and the Ministry of Culture.
The ‘Small Business Saturday’ event will take place along Main Street and its
adjacent streets and alleys stretching all the way down to the Piazza and The
Convent. Traders are encouraged to participate and offer incentives in the line of
vouchers, bargain buys, gifts and special discounts to shoppers. Businesses offering
these incentives will receive posters/stickers to place on their premises and will
feature on a ‘shopping map’. Free fair attractions, Classic Car rally and bouncy
castles are just some of the entertainment that will be on offer on this day. A full
programme of events will be announced shortly.
