Gib Port delegation attends top international bunkering event in Germany

A delegation from the Gibraltar Port Authority led by Captain of the Port, Commodore
Bob Sanguinetti, is currently participating in a high powered international bunkering
event in Hamburg, Germany. The annual convention of the International Bunker
Industry Association (IBIA), the representative organisation for the sector worldwide,
brings together global players from leading commercial entities and port authorities.

The local contingent includes representatives from the wider shipping industry in
Gibraltar including members of the Gibraltar Port Operators Association (GPOA).

The Gibraltar Port Authority is the Gold Sponsor for this event, and in addition John
Ghio, Bunkering Superintendent for the Port Authority, will be making a presentation
at the convention explaining the regulatory regime in place for the local industry
under the Bunkering Code of Practice. This regime is internationally accepted as
being at the forefront of regulations for the industry, and a number of other ports are
seeking to emulate this approach.

Minister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port Neil Costa
yesterday welcomed the presence of the Port Authority at such a prestigious event.
Mr Costa said: “The participation at this convention is an integral part of the
marketing drive being carried out by HM Government of Gibraltar to promote our
maritime industry, and active collaboration with IBIA is a key element of this
approach.”
